Great Thread! Smile

I'm thinking about ordering a pair tomorrow. My room is 13 x 18, and since it sounds fine in Fox's 12 x 17, I assume the power output should be sufficient for my room as well. Any comments?

I bet many retailers are selling the BM5A compact as the BM5A???????
Also, I've heard many people say the dyns are
hard to work in the mids, resulting in some odd translation issues.
sorry if I sound negative, but I want the full review monty since I'm strongly considering the Dyn's (non compact). Has anyone compared them with Event PS8's?

Tonio,

Well, I haven't really had a good chance to put the Titan to task. I loaned it out to a buddy of mine though who was cutting some vocal tracks with a Studio Projects C1.

For what it's worth, he was quite pleased with the results. He felt the bottom was tighter and the high end not as brittle. War characterizes this mic as "smooth" and I'm thinking that's about as spot on as I can't relay given the experience I've had with the mic.

I'm especially looking forward to using it as a bass cab and drum overhead spot mic. For now, if/when I do vocal overdubs for projects it'll be my "money" mic.

We'll see.....

Best, trans

I have few photos inside of bm5a, amps & drivers.

I haven't found any information about those drivers, are those 84843 & 81716 model or serialnumbers?

Are those same drivers than in bm6a: D260/17w75?

From the specs on these speakers I am gathering the tweeters are the same but the woofers are not. Also, the BM6A's crossover point is at 2.2kHz while the BM5A's is at 1.5kHz. The BM6A recieved 100 watts for both the tweeter and the woofer while the BM5A receives 50 watts for each .

BM6A:

TWEETER: Esotec 28 mm soft dome, rear chamber, Magnetic fluid. 4 mm die-cast aluminum front.

WOOFER: 17 cm, 75 mm pure alu wire voice coil, One piece molded polypropylene cone

Dan recommended these to me. Tom traded in an upright electric bass and a Japanese fender for these at Sam Ash. We got an even trade, suprisingly enough. Lucky me!

Wow! Huge difference. It's going to make my life much easier and much more pleasant! lol...

There were phasing issues that I was having from cloning drum tracks. I didn't hear these problems before. I immediately heard it through these.

I do hear each instrument more seperated and it makes it much easier to pan and eq everything into it's own space.

One of my pairs of personal monitors are Dynaudio AIR 15's with a Benchmark DAC1. So, I'm used to that $3000+ monitor sound on a daily basis. The 5A's deliver the same type of sound [ clarity, imagery, depth, no ear fatigue ] in a smaller package.

Hey Dan!

Thanks for the comments! I am trying to decide on the BM6As or the BM5As and some people have said the BM6A were better... but I have a 11'X 12' project studio and don't need the extra power, so for me.. it sounds like the BM5As will do the trick Waytogo

BTW... I currently am using the blue sky media desk. If I may ask... how do they compare with the BM5As (minus the sub of course.) I may end up getting the Dynaudio sub for the 5A's later as well! Big Grin

Thanks,
Jamie

Hey everyone!

Interesting thread. Everything I read about the BM5As sounds awesome. Does anyone know how they compare with the Adam A7?

Cheers

I actually started a thread comparing the two over at gearsluts.com. Heres the link:

I thought I'd give a heads up to anyone considering the passive Dyns.

After hearing the BM5a at Guitar Center, I decided to buy the BM6p monitors ($800) along with a used Hafler P3000 ($300) MOSFET amp. This combination sounds excellent -- better than the demo at GC, primarily due to my room being treated -- and I can recommend it to anyone considering passives. FYI, the amps in the active Dyns are MOSFET.

Interesting James, I've read (GS) that the amps in teh BM6's are lacking.
Not bad for a $500 savings.

I've been running BM6's for about a year now, and would be hard-pressed to find a way in which they are lacking. For what they are (a nearfield), they are articulate and detailed, with good imaging and suprising power for their size. They aren't as ear-bleed-loud as my Mackie HR824's or the Tannoy System 800a's we just got, but I print better mixes on the Dynaudios.

I'm utterly baffled at the general opinion regarding smoking. I don't smoke, but it's a bar, for God's sake. That's what your supposed to expect. It's a den of iniquity where people are going to indulge in all of the minor vices and sins denied to them during their mundane workdays. You can wreck your liver, ruin your hearing, get into a fight, and pick up an STD, but somehow smoking is unacceptable? Sheesh. We've turned into a nation of entitled whiners.

hey guys great info here !

Do you think the BM6A MK2's are worth the extra $$ 500 over the BM5A's ?? they claim better frequency response due to a larger cabinet ..

or is this just a cash grab on dynaudio's part ??

the woofer & tweeter are identical.
