Hey Eddie, good to see you here - and I'll see you this weekend in SC.

Steve, we're going after a bunch of D/I stuff for Session 3. We have a Lakland endorsement, and just got the bass in. It's a beautiful Bob Glaub Signature sunburst P&J.;

We'll be doing direct bass through a lot of the pres and D/I's and also electric guitar. We'll also be firing up some Pods.

Alos looking to D/I some drum machines and a Korg Trinity.

That's the plan for now. We'll see. : )

Well, we made it through Session 3! It's all bass DI. We used the Lakland Bob Glaub Skyline P&J; bass. 30 tracks were cut using 18 pres.

We used a Countryman direct box and went through the mic pres.

We'll have the MP3's up in a few days.

On the API, when you say stock '99 op amp, do you mean an API 2520 opamp produced in 1999, or something else? Confusing me, because the Millenia Media one is now named the MM-99, I believe, and there are all the true 990's in addition to the offshoots. (The Forsell and MM are both functionally interchangeable with the 990, but a different topology, the MM being the early version of Fred's current design.)

Bear's, yes, the stock '99 is the stock API 2520 opamp that came with the 3124. The other vintage opamps are also 2520's.

The Millennia opamp is indeed the MM-99. Thanks for catching that.

I just came from the studio and have the Millennia opamp here. It is an MM-990.

On further listening, we are not happy with some of the bass DI tracks on Session 3. Another session is scheduled for early next week to cut more tracks.

Sorry for the delay, but we want to do this right. : )

Session 4 - Mic Preamps DI Drum Machine - will be online on or about January 19th.

John La Grou had recently changed the name to distinguish it from 990 types that were truer to the original Deane Jensen design. It's listed as the MM-99 on their website. Oddly, the accompanying picture has the product labeled as MM-990. There should be no difference between the MM-990 and MM-99.

Good job. To me, the Audio Buddy's tone is surprisingly good. But, it lags on the speed end of things. Who is the guy who hot rods the mic preamps to make the faster?

Why use a DI box, when the preamps have HI-Z inputs ?

Peakae,
Some of the pre did not have hi z input. If we were going to use the DI on those, we had to use it on all of them. Just to keep the signal path identical. Consistancy is very important to these sessions. If the countryman changes the audio in any way (good or bad) before it gets to the pres without hi z inouts. We have to make sure the same excact signal is going into each and every pre.

Ok that makes sense, if you don't want to use the preamp as a DI.
But as a bass player wanting to do just that the test is of limited use for me.
No pun intended !!!
Keep up the good work.
