Howdy! I signed up for this a while back but am just now visiting the site. Hope I can catch up.

What a great idea! And whatta guy Bruce is for putting his time and effort into it!

About me: I've always had a strong music streak in me but found a good career in computers right after community college. I started recording my own compositions on a Teac 3340 in the late 70's but never really knew squat about mics, preamps, compression, etc. Nowadays I play bass guitar in a classic rock cover band or two and do some recording on the side. But I've never had any formal training in recording and feel that I missed out on important basics.

SmileHi,
My first visit here. I too appreciate what Bruce is doing.
I first got hooked on recording when I got out of the service in 1970 on a 4 channel Akai reel-to-reel with some nice Sony condensor mics. I loved capturing the life like sounds of some good music. Later, I got into a mail order scam when I ordered a Revox A700 recorder from Germany. I stayed away from recording until the mid 90's when I bought a Pulsar sound card and tryed to get Emagic to work with it on an Athlon computer. I spent a few years fighting compatability issues. In 2003, I got a RME Multiface interface and Samplitude software and everything started working smoothly. I've dabbled in Midi also. I have Steinberg Cubase SX, a Midex interface and a S30 Yamaha keyboard. I'm still learning, but on Tuesday, I'll start teaching audio recording and editing at a small Charter HS in cenral CA. I'm going to use a lot of my own equipment: Fostex D824 HDR, Tascam TMD1000 digital recorderand a newer Mackie mixer, custom built computer etc etc. I'll be looking for a lot of help here and I'll have my students check in also.

Chuck

Hi guys. Thanks Dan for hosting. Impressed with the course content Bruce - the balance between facts, advice and general feel imparted for approaching audio quality. A good read too.
