I'm in a similar boat to Smyro...funnily enough.
New to this forum... Just bought EMU Emulator XS and Event ASP8 monitors and now need a mon controller, and have now pretty much narrowed my choice to the M-Patch2 but want to find out more. Any more threads on this topic would be great! Incidentally, there should soon be a review of the M-patch2 in SOS mag. Cheers. |

I just got myself an M-Patch 2 and I have to say it is a great tool.
Big volume pot (not stepped) to control monitor out. Mono/stereo switch (great for listening for phase/balance issues). Mute switch (great for turning off mons to record some vocals). You can have two sets of monitors and switch between them. Aux input with separate volume for, say, a CD-player maybe. Headphone amp (I haven't used this one yet and this is the only thing that requires power from the external PS). It looks good on the desktop too I cannot judge wether it degrades sound or not but it sounds alright to me. /Ole |

Hi, Please be carefull as there is a vast difference between the MPATCH2 and the original MPATCH. The components are totally different and the build is totally different. In the MP2 we use hand selected Pots which are within .5dB tollerence. Even in High end systems using %1 resistors you could get a theoretical %4 or MORE variance in a balanced system.

I noticed the new one no longer has rack ears (at least in the photo I saw).
I agree with Dan's original comment,in that I don't really have use for this type of product if I can't rack it up. I'd be using this at home, and have a small rack setup at the desk - not a credenza of rack gear behind me. |

Thanks for the info. Funnily enough after all this time I am going to be ordering my m-patch tomorrow...most probably! I had decided on it, but have recently started to think about the Samson C-Control again. It gets really mixed reviews, especially concerning sound colouration. So any last minute opinions about these two pieces would be great.

Sorry - just saw your post Bazz. It does hve rack ears and apparently there are several ways in which they can be used so no worries there.
Remember it is 2U not 1U like the original. The newer batch also has increment on the volume dials - Martin Walker of SOS suggested it to them last year and they added it to future production. Not many websites selling the unit show this though. Take a look at the SOS review if still interested. |

1. Frequency is cut at maker's convenience
(under 20hz,over 20khz). - so result frequency felt 50hz~14khz at ears. -> dull in low, closed in high(not opened). -> not natural. 2. Distortion and dull. -> another sound compare with origin input. recommend: 1 to professionals - you should not use this stuff for your consumers. 2 to listeners - save your money for alternative unit. (DAC or preamplifiers support full balance XLR output) |
