Ok so i have this band and i have a truckload of gear just pulled from a studio i no longer have anything to do with. Thank god.
and i have an un air conditioned 20'x30'x14' warehouse space in the middle of summer in Florida, were supposedly getting AC next week but that remains to be seen.

The gear at my diposal is

Intel centrino Duo 1.7 gig laptop with 1.25 gig of ram and an extra 100 gig internal 7200 rpm sata drive (like anybody REALLY cares but i was all proud of myself when i didnt have to break out the Firewire drives all the time.

MOTU 896 HD
Behringer ada 8000

MOTU 24 i/o that still needs a box built to go with it but mabye when i get this new job. well see.

16 channel Yamaha PM-1000 modded to give 8 direct outputs and 4 buss outputs, my newest and right now most awesomest toy. The switches crackle a bit, but thats what DeOxit is for.

32 channel Soundtracs Topaz project 8
Great little board, no complaints at all except the auxes are a bit limited what are you gonna do for what i paid

TL audio EQ-2 (rocks)
Presonus MP20 (also rocks, but in a different way)

Yamaha HS80m Monitors (love em)

various headphones for deaf drummers

Drawmer DL241
RANE pe-15 parametric EQ
RANE me -15 B Dual graphic eq
RANE DC24 two band mono compressor, (just got this thing but the possibilities are endless!)
TC electronic triple C (possibly for sale)
FMR audio RNC
SPL vitalizer incredibly useful if you ever want your kick drum to blow peoples speakers. secret weapon for putting the ass back in peoples tracks
2x Roland SDE 1000 cool little LoFI digital delays, really old, but they still work.
Ensoniq DP-4 Killer
TC M5000 Makes other reverbs cry.
Digi tech Genesis 3 their POD wanna be, great for insane effects, like crappy singers, through amp simulators, with flanging and in tempo delay. Nice.

Edited on July 16th or so

I realized i have more crap than that...sorry..

SWR interstellar overdrive bass preamp
thing sounds really good but still havent done anything with it might be for sale?

Symetrix 602 - broadcast style digital EQ COMP Limiter and converter. stereo, got it very cheap. sometimes handy for extra digital I/o it sounds fine sometimes doesnt boot up right.

Aphex Aural exciter with big bottom - yeah i know

MICS
2x Shure KSM32
2x Oktava MLK 2500
4x Sennheiser 604
2x Sennheiser 602
2x Sennheiser 609
2x SM57
2x Okava MC 012
2x sennheiser 835
1 Shure BETA 58 but im not sure where it is.
EV 635?
EV 646?
Audio Technica 811

ill post pictures, as soon as you see the EV mics youll recognize them

Wow, i have alot of stuff

Theres lots of guitars and drums and stuff but those will come to light over time, this is a recording forum anyway.

SO first things first, drums are a 6 peice DW custom kit, my drummer works in a drum shop so yeah there ya go. Toms are miced on top with the Sennheiser 604's and the two high toms get 57's on the bottoms, the 18" floor tom gets a 602 on the bottom and the little bitty flavour tom doesnt get anything, cause im still mad at it for drinking the last mountain dew.

all the toms get run through the Yamaha PM1000 and tops and bottoms are bussed down to 4 tracks in the computer. Phase always flipped on the boottom, i dont know about you guys but i usually EQ to tape, so ill cut some 1k ish and hi pass all the mics at 80hz cause that yamaha has some balls. good lord.

Snare gets a 609 sneaked over the top and an 835 on the bottom, right up on the snares. top mic into channel two of the TL audio eq2, pretty mic flat but cutting a little 60hz and boosting a tad at 10 k for some crack, bottom mic into the presonus MP20, flat save the 80hz bass rolloff and phase switch.

Overheads. Ive been screwing with overheads forever before i finally found one that i like. I put the two MKL 2500's on a stereo bar and point them away from each other at about 45 degrees or so. then they get rolled (cause i finally put wheels on the one big mic stand that ive had since high school) just over the center of the kick drum about equidistant from all the cymbals, and at about head hight, a little lower and they start to get crunchy, which is usually fine but not today.

Those get pumped into the Yamaha pm1000 and direct outputted into the MOTU the bass eq is totally cut and the top end is boosted MABYE 3db around 10k i think

KICK sennheiser 602 a few inches outside the hole on the kick drum. it delivers less slap and more boom. just like a 26" (!) kick drum demands. that was going into the TL audio eq-2 channel one, but instead the output crapped out and i ran it into the Yamaha Pm1000 and actually.... i think i like it better...

the EV mic that looks like a horse Phallus was pointed at an angle right into the center of the kick drum, it was run into the MP20 channel one with nothing on it except phase.

RUM mics were Shure KSM32s behind the drum kit about shoulder height pointed at the toms, this was my drummers idea, i try to shoot for more of a roomy crazier sound but he wanted to so we did it. those went into the yamaha pm1000 flat

Hi hat duties were the mk012 with the 10 db pad into the pm1000 with only bass roll off at 100hz

i eventually put another room mic up pointing up to the ceiling over the drums, it sounds pretty cool, its the other mk012 into the PM1k

Yeah i do alot to drums......sorry'

anyway we do drums and scratch guitar together, so, since we dont have isolation anymore i built a speaker isolation box big enough to hold my marshall 1936 2x12 and two mics, it has padding in it and it sounds pretty cool, but more than anything it keeps the guitar sounds out of the drum mics.

AND THEN WE STARTED TRACKING!!!! DUM DUM DUM.......

ill post pictures of all this when i find them....there around....probably....

sorry about the long winded ness ill post sound clips if anybody wants to hear them.

The PM-1000 has sparked my interest. Like...where did you find it and what did it cost you (if you don't mind me asking)?

I'm utterly baffled at the general opinion regarding smoking. I don't smoke, but it's a bar, for God's sake. That's what your supposed to expect. It's a den of iniquity where people are going to indulge in all of the minor vices and sins denied to them during their mundane workdays. You can wreck your liver, ruin your hearing, get into a fight, and pick up an STD, but somehow smoking is unacceptable? Sheesh. We've turned into a nation of entitled whiners.

Welcome, Cheat! Nice gear list. One of the engineers in a studio I'm working out of is in the process of refurbing a PM1000 and I can't wait to hear that puppy.

AN UPDATE! HAHAHA MANY MANY MONTHS LATER

Ok moved into a huge ass space. approx 1300 sqFt filled with all types of crap, got a new interface, MOTU 24 i/o and clocking the whole thing off a TC m5000 sounds improved dramatically, also picked up a Mackie Autopilot automation system, for the Topaz, looking forward to mixing on it. Also picked up a TL Audio 5051 and Shure SM7B impossible to say enough good things about those two gadgets. Anyway were back to tracking, pictures will be uploaded shortly and we will carry on.

Also built a speaker isolation cabinet known to us now as The Ark of the Covenant because it holds loud ass cabinets and two microphones and allows us to record with a reasonable amount of isolation in a huge open space.

oh, we have a bathroom now too.

We ended up re recording about 80% of the old stuff and a few new songs so of course were right back where we started.

Started a new album with another band, and its turning out GREAT. Will post pics soon.

Take care!

Chris
