first off i have a omni i/o from m-audio. what do you guys think of it.. i think it sucks. i recorded a sample of some bongos with a good quality mic (AKG c414b-XLS) going into the box and i feel it sounds distored and missy many high frequencies. i think its all the box''s fualt. cheap pres. however what do you guys think? and i mad sure that it was distorting but just the natural sound of the m-audio sounds like its distored.. i know its not the mic.. how do i send it to you guys?

I mean that AKG was inside the bongo? Better put outside it, play bongs while they have some inclination, as 30° from the vertical position, and put the mic in front of them, at desired height. The inclination of mic and its type, cardioid or not, might change the take too.
