I know this is not released yet, but it seems the pre-amps and the driver are the same on all TC Konnekt audio interface. Anyone knows how the pre-amps and driver compare to MOTU, Apogee Ensemble, FireFace 400/800, Metric Halo ULN-2? |

Just got the konnekt 24D today.
Can't comment on the preamps. Compared to my Motu828mkII the driver is bad. The driver features are ok, a bit different way to control things compared to Motu or RME. But the drivers are not stable, they are workable however if you exit all audio programs before changing settings in the TC control panel. I had Cubase do strange things when stating and stopping the TC plugins while playing. It actually once just booted the computer not even a BSOD. But the sound whoa... I choose the MOTU828mkII over the Fireface800 when comparing them, the difference in sound was not that big, and I preferred the sound of the motu. But this TC just sounds better than both, and not just kind off better there is a real difference. / Peter Kaersaa |

I too just got a konnekt 24D for my laptop, and also, because I needed a spare interface because my motu 2408 MK3 is busted and I need to sent it for repair, but can't leave that studio non working.
I've had the same experience with the 24D. Terrible driver, and I mean terrible, with spoofs and crashes all over the place. The sound is what stuck me. And I'm glad I'm not the only crazy one on this, but I did like the sound of it a lot. Very clean and defined. Certainly better than my motu 2408, and probably my fireface as well. This has been playback only, as I'm using my outboard preamps and AD16 and just going trough adat into the konnekt. Whatever TC did with their jetpll technology or whatever I believe its not pure marketing BS. I'm yet to test its preamps. On the other side, another con, it does not support full ASIO direct monitoring, with was a real wack for me, as I use this functionality in nuendo a lot, in conjunction with a digital mixer. This means that you are forced into using the TC Near dsp mixer, with also, is pretty limited, as it does not offer a real free routing matrix between inputs and outputs. This was really dissapointing, coming from TC, me thinks. The DSP FX is a cool idea, I guess from somebody working in a small home studio setup, altough I have not tried these that much. The freebie EQ plugin is good, the integrator concept also. BTW, This week TC support sent me a beta driver trough its support system. This driver seems much more robust than the currently posted. The dsp mixer is much more stable, altough it takes a lot of time to load tough wich at first seems strange. They also added some feature to adjust an internal buffer wich is supposed to stabilize the konnekt with problematic systems. So far its been working much better, with some small quirks here and there, but I least I can get some work done....might want to contact TC about this driver. |

The only place I can find some decent info is on:
http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1614053 I did the latest non-beta update both firmware and driver, and as others also report problems got worse. In windows taskmanager my CPU Usage jumps up and down 2% - 13% with nothing running just the Konnekt24d on. Turning it off and the CPU Usage is 0% Plugging the Motu-828mkII in and CPU Usage is still 0% / Peter Kaersaa |

This is not the same driver we are taling about. They are talking about v1.3, I think the Beta I installed is V2.x some, but pretty sure its not the same. I got this beta trough the TC support system and their website. If you like I can upload a copy somewhere for you to try it.

There was a link in the forum so I got it.
Yes the beta driver is better, no dropouts so far. But the mixer sucks, very buggy crashes on me every other time. But hey better than fubar sound. / Peter Kaersaa |

Interesting. Once (if) they ever get the driver issues sorted out - and ASIO support, yikes - this unit looks pretty viable.

it seems some units arrived in the US.
http://www.zzounds.com/item--TCEKONNEKT48 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/KonnektStu48/ Anyone got one to give us some feedback? It seems it works for some people and not for others. I'd appreciate any comments. |
