Opinion. I don't find my "fair share of dogs" UNLESS I put on an Beatles (non collection) album. ...and not really commentary on delivery format. You'd get the same number of "dogs" from iTunes or Bittorrent or CD or SACD or vinyl. . . . . For further proof of my lack of expertise, please listen to:My Tunes |

I buy 50+ CDs a year. I have about 3000 CDs and about 1000 LPs.

For a few years I worked at a record store and booked bands in a local club so I was constantly receiving promos and demos and spending most of my paycheck on records and cds. I don't really buy as much music as I used to- usually classical and jazz stuff that I never had on vinyl or interesting reissues.
I'm glad to see there's some other vinyl addicts out there. I started collecting records when I was a little kid in the 1970s and still buy lps and 45s occasionally. Vinyl still sounds best to me- especially through my dad's old MacIntosh- the tube amp that is, not the computer. |

More teenagers ignoring CDs
48% of teenagers bought no CDs at all in 2007, up from 38% in 2006. Music downloads continue to grow, though, with iTunes leading the way. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-music27feb27,0,44...ostviewed-storylevel --------------------------- Dan Richards The Listening Sessions --------------------------- Pro Audio Consulting (866) 409-3686 |

Right, purely subjective. Like vs. dislike. Different for everyone. We've all had this argument before, as I recall, with the digital delivery vs. vinyl somewhere many threads back. Were songs on vinyl albums better because they knew they had space restraints, etc.?
Seems like the days of the consumer audiophile are quickly fading away. Of course there may never have been that many of them to begin with - one out of five friends had the expensive stereo and the rest listened to a single-speaker radio Seems like as Internet bandwidth increases and file storage space increases, MP3s or 4s or even wav files (or whatever is next) could conceivably be 24-bit with higher sample rate. This would take care of the poor quality, I would guess. Just a function of space and transmission it would seem. 1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, see the man, see the man... |

You know what pisses me off most? How even people not making a great living have embraced high rez digital video.
I don't know anyone who doesn't have a 40"+ HDTV...surround sound set ups...upsampling DVD players--now running out to buy BluRay drives because it's finally "won" the format war. I've seen the difference--it's startling...but, I find myself having the same feeling non audiophiles argue about SACD/DVDA--will it make me enjoy the material better? Will I enjoy HOUSE more if I can see every bit of stubble on Laurie's face? The difference? Next gen audio didn't require you adopt it...SACD is full backward compatible. Don't care about the DSD layer? Don't buy a new player--there's a redbook layer, too. They got to be the same price at the end, too. BluRay will soon be the only format I can rent a movie on. I will need a new player. I won't get any upgrade in quality, because it's not hooked to an HDTV. Hopefully, by that point, they will be $50-100 like DVD players. This goes back, IMO, to the industry killing the LP and consolidating their business model to one delivery method, IMO. Used to be, people who wanted to actually listen bought LP...convenience people bought cassettes. When they combine them to one format and adjusted profit expectation, it was the beginning of the end. . . . . For further proof of my lack of expertise, please listen to:My Tunes |

High Def TVs are mandatory next year aren't they? Seems like the deadline for cutting over is 2009. That's a whole other can of worms.
We bought a new TV a few years back - the 70s floor console model finally died and it was time to re-model the house anyway, so... Supposedly it's HD ready, whatever that means. We borrow my daughter's little DVD player and run that out to the TV when we want to watch a rental 1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, see the man, see the man... |
